The spiral is an enigmatic symbol pervading time and cosmology. We see it in the shape of our galaxy, the Milky Way, and in the processes and forms of nature, such as the spiralling of a growing seedling or the structure of a snail shell. In the universal language of mathematics, we also see the spiral in the Fibonacci sequence, pervading natural phenomena, human art, music, and design. We also see the spiral symbol perpetuated across the millennia through the perceptions and beliefs of humanity, etched into stone carvings, ancient military relics, and other archaeological finds.

When I created Take Root Yogis, I knew I needed to create something authentic and driven/guided from something within. I read across the various beliefs and interpretations of the spiral symbol and came to an understanding that resonated with me and thought that it was something I could also share with others.

When I designed the symbol for Take Root Yogis, I drew it with the intention and belief that each individual that engages with yoga is opening a gateway and opportunity within themselves towards growth, self-development, and transformation. From seed to root to shoot. This is our growth journey.

We need to set down roots metaphorically in everyday aspects of our lives to create a solid foundation from which to grow. This can apply to family, relationships between family and friends, relationships concerning oneself and money, and the relationship that one has with oneself. This last one is crucial, as from this central seed of potential comes with it the capacity to grow compassionately from within, in such a way that it nurtures self and those around us. You are the seed of potential.

As your teacher, I hope to guide you with authenticity and compassionate intention, one that reflects my own internal journey of growth, development, and transformation.

I came to yoga through wishing to develop flexibility and strength to help heal an old hiking injury so that I might expand my ballet practice safely. From this point in my life I realised that yoga provided something deeper. Yoga provided me with the tools to help me connect with my true self. This self was waiting to communicate authentically, and with movement, meditation, and breathwork, I became more aware of hurt, pain, trauma, and loops that have pervaded my internal system, creating a limiting environment that hindered my growth.

One crucial step for me was when I held myself after a practice on the mat and forgave myself for not living up to an expectation of myself, one I’d punish myself for not meeting, one that was ultimately not meant to be met at the time. With yoga, I have learned to communicate with myself with greater compassion and bring the light of awareness to limiting beliefs I need not follow.

Just like different plants that require different conditions to thrive, individuals have their own unique needs that help them grow and thrive. Take Root Yogis offers a safe, inviting space for students to learn, grow, and strengthen their mind-body connection. Using trauma-informed practices with medical research evidence, my classes are designed to help support your growth and development from within. The language I use in classes is choice-focused, supporting your autonomy. The time you share on the mat with me is your time, it is your space, and it is entirely yours to honour your body’s own unique story.
